Pedal Auction Description: Hiwatt amplifiers came on the scene in the 60's in Great Britain and offered a cleaner, higher headroom loud powerful rock and roll stack alternative to the more distorted, grindy Marshalls that came on the scene.During that time, Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Peter Townsend were the two most famous players who used HiWatts for a huge amount of their signature sounds on recordings and live. Townsend loved his Hiwatts so much the Who included the name in the lyrics to their rock anthem "Long Live Rock".Jimmy Page also made use of HiWatts for a few very famous concerts. A short time later, bands like Styx and players such as Joe Walsh made Hiwatts a big part of their sound as well and more recently Hiwatts have been used in the gear arsenals of The Killers, Coldplay, The Arctic Monkeys, The Darkness, Albert Hammond Jr. and Noel Gallagher.Menatone pedals are a top tier boutique brand whose custom shop pedals are rare and command big bucks when they come up for sale. Menatone's specialty is to create pedals inspired by famous amplifiers. I've own their Trainwreck, Dumble and Marshall inspired pedals and really feel they capture the sound and tone of those famous amps. Well this Menawatt is no different. Not as high gain as the other pedals, the Menawatt really gets that British Bark but in a cleaner, clearer tone that makes those Hiwatts so unique. Tones really sing and sustain clearly and a big surprise for me was how amazing it sounded with a strat, really filling out and thickening the sometimes thin tones of my single coils for a really tough, pushed and full bluesey sound. It was almost like going up two or three string gauges while still retaining the unique characteristics of those strat pickups. The Menawatt has an amazing 8 knobs to give you full tone and feel sculpting of the Menatone's Hiwatt experience. You have the standard British amp array of tone controls - Bass, Middle, Treble, Presence, then there's a Master Volume, a "Power Gain" which helps emulate the sound and feel of overdriving the power tubes on the amp, Brilliant and Normal Gain which are gain controls for two inputs typically found on British amps of the era - this pedal gives you the ability to blend the channel's sound, a technique known as "jumpering the channels" on the real amps to mix the sounds together. It's a great sounding pedal and a nice unique alternative to all the Marshall styled gain pedals on the market. My pedal is about a year old and is in great condition, works perfectly.
